About Our SchoolAbout Our School

Mission: Rose E. Krug School’s parents, students, staff, and community partners will contribute to creating a positive learning environment in order to enhance the cognitive, social/emotional, and physical development of each child.

Krug Primary LrgKrug School is a small K- 5 neighborhood school in a park like setting at the end of Melrose Ave in Aurora IL; the school was opened in 1965 and an addition was completed in 2001. It borders the Fox Valley Park District; therefore, students have access to a number of baseball diamonds. Student enrollment is approximately 300 students. Our school was named after Rose E. Krug, who was a nurse in East Aurora and  World War I veteran.

Academic Offerings

There are general education classes, bilingual/ESL classes, and special education classes. In the new addition a computer lab and learning resource center is the anchor. Students are offered a full educational program including art, music, physical education, and technology classes.

Krug is proud to be a part of the District 131 dual language program for students in Kindergarten and First Grade this year.  Dual Language education integrates native English-speaking students with native Spanish speaking students for academic instruction. This instruction is presented in both languages. Social and academic learning occurs in an environment that values the language and culture of all students. This sets high standards for kids to ultimately achieve high academic success in Spanish and English.  The program is designed to ensure that all students become bilingual, biliterate and multicultural with the ability to meaningfully engage with their learning in an increasingly global society.

The program at Krug is a two-way program.  Two-way dual language classrooms serve students who are Spanish-speaking English learners and students who are dominant English speakers. Instruction is provided at a 50:50 ratio. This means that 50% of the instruction is in Spanish, and 50% of the instruction is in English.  The Dual Language program provides students the opportunity to learn English and Spanish, while maintaining high academic standards.
